Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000

AIBI-CS offers certification to the FSSC 22000 standards for food safety and food packaging, which are based on existing ISO standards.

What Does the Standard Cover?

These standards cover food legality and safety, but not quality.

FSSC 22000 contains a complete certification scheme for food safety systems based on:

  • Food safety management standard ISO 22000: 2005 ‘Requirements for any organization in the food chain’
  • Prerequisite programs on food safety for food manufacturing – ISO/TS 22002-1
  • Prerequisite programs for packaging manufacturing – ISO/TS 22002-4
  • Additional FSSC 22000 requirements for certification
  • Prerequisite programs on food safety for feed and animal food production ISO/TS 22002-6.

Companies that are already certified against ISO 22000 will only need an additional review against ISO/TS 22002-1 (food manufacturers) or ISO/TS 22002-4 (packaging manufacturers) and additional FSSC 22000 requirements for certification to meet this certification scheme.

Partially Virtual Audits  (New!)

The FSSC Foundation has recently published a new annex that allows the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) tools to complete the FSSC22000 audits. The ICT audit approach consists of a 2 step process, a remote audit focusing on document review followed by an onsite audit to verify implementation of the FSSC 22000 scheme requirements.

The requirements as set out in IAF MD4 on the use of ICT for auditing/assessment purposes are mandatory. It is important to note that this is an alternative but voluntary option.

  • Two stage process with a time interval of 30 days to up to 90 days (in case of serious events
  • Remote and onsite audit durations is split 50%-50%. The onsite durations must be at least 1 day.
  • The remote audit can be held on your preferred platform. (Zoom, Teams, or Other). Data security and confidentiality issues need to be addressed in advance

Remote audit consists of:

  • Document review - Focusing on ISO22000:2018
  • Interviews with Key Personnel

On-site audit consists of:

  • FSMS, HACCP & PRPs/ Physical inspection
  • Open issues from remote audits
  • Upgrade of NCs from the remote audit possible
  • Closure of Minor NCs 28d, Major NCs 28d with follow-up audit, Critical NCs 14d with follow-up audit

Final report received after completion of both stages

What Are the Key Benefits?
