Statistical Analysis
"U.K. Sweet Goods Market" in The Manufacturing Confectioner, Vol.
90, No. 2 (February 2010), p. 15-19. Article profiles the sales of chocolate, gum
and sugar sweets, biscuits, and cake categories of the sweet goods market in the United
Kingdom. According to data obtained from The Grocer magazine sales in the chocolate
category increased 2.6 percent, with top category sales going to Cadbury Dairy Milk, Kit
Kat, and Galaxy. Trends in the chocolate category include shrinking size, smaller
multipacks and cuts in case sizes. Sales in the biscuit category only increased slighted
by 0.2 percent. Cakes sales have declined this year from 3.1 percent to 0.5 percent. Side
bars in article profile new product introductions including: Cadbury Clusters from
Cadbury, Randoms from Roundtree, Mikado, chocolate covered pretzels, from Kraft, Cadbury
Mini Bakes from Premier Foods. Comments on sales in the sweet goods category of the U.K.

4 (November 2000). Notes the popularity of Cinnabon cinnamon rolls in Japan.
One bakery is reported to have sold 2,000 to 2,500 rolls a day during the
week.
"Fall in Bread Production." in Asia-Pacific Baker, Vol. 6, No. 2
(May 2002). January production of bakery products in Russia declined 4.5% to 655,000
tonnes, according to a report from the Russian State Statistics Committee.
"Global Perspectives" in Snack & Wholesale Bakery,
Vol. 91, No. 7 (July 2002). Notes that the world snack market has topped $55
billion annually. Includes a table with U.S. Exports of Snack Food Products to

"Japanese Confectionery - 1999 Snack Report in Manufacturing
Confectioner." Vol. 81, No. 4 (April 2001). pp.400. Tables profile
the "Kashi" market in Japan. Kashi is defined as products that are
"sweet and savory food preparations eaten between regular meals. This includes
candy, chocolate, chewing gum, baked goods and snack foods." Production
and sales data for these products are given in several tables.
"Potential for Baked Products Growing" in Asia-Pacific
Baker, Vol. 4, No. 2 (May 2000). Reports that per capita
consumption of bakery products in India is low compared to other countries. The country
has annual sales of $1,400m and production predicted at 5m tonnes by the end of 2000. Bread and biscuits are the
highest selling products

a record increase over the last five years.

Data includes main producing companies, top ten confectionery markets, production trends,
consumption trends, sugar confectionery consumption, chocolate confectionery consumption,
and biscuits/wafers consumption. Total confectionery production in the EU was
$44,828,334 or 10,596,154 metric tonnes. Total consumption of biscuits and
other baked goods for the same time period was $6,013,995 or average per capita (in
Kg/head) of 8.92.
